Expose on New Horizons

The Muncie (Indiana) Starr Press did an expose on New Horizons Youth Ministries this Sunday. They interviewed many alums, as well as parents who pulled their daughter from the program after they visited the Dominican Republic and found "their daughter was being whipped every week with a leather paddle."

Here's a great sidebar on why tough love programs don't work.

Notice the Redwine guy does not counter the allegations (which the article self-injuriously summarizes as "poor housing conditions and abuse") made in "a book," but says that "the staff made mistakes." So,he will write one called "Family is Pain." Oh, my god................ These people do not represent any God I could believe in either.

Hi Julia: I tried to link to the article and unfortunately, it did not work. I searched the newspaper's website and couldn't find it either. Thanks, Jane

Just finished your powerful memoir. It caused me some restless nights & so it should. Thank you so much for your huge voice. This kind of thing has gone on since time immemorial & must be continuously exposed. Fundamentalism of any stripe is the scourge of the planet.
I hope you continue well & have all the love & luck that so so richly deserve.
