Unanswered Questions

Okay, so I'm getting a lot of e-mails from people wondering what happened to certain people and entities featured in Jesus Land. Here are some answers.

Jerome - I have not seen Jerome since shortly after the funeral. Last time I heard, he'd been fired from McDonald's, where he was on work release for not paying child support.

My parents - They are full-time volunteers at a missionary compound in Orlando. (The Wycliffe Bible Translators). We are estranged.

Escuela Caribe - Yes, it still exists and it is thriving! Teen behavioral modification programs are a multi-million dollar business and "New Horizons Youth Ministries" has lined its pockets with its $3K-$6K a month tuition.

"Scott" - Last time I heard, he was a janitor at a Kentucky synagogue, divorced with two children.

I am, however, in very close contact with my two older sisters, Laura and Deb, who are devout Chrisitans and whom I deeply respect.

The power in this book must be brought to a movie screen. It is the kind of story that would be unbelievable as fiction, but goes off like a nuclear bomb as reality. I think in a way it is the perfect answer to Mel Gibson's Jesus movie. Lets see what real life fundamentalist Christians do in the name of Jesus. I think Jesus would kill himself if He came back and saw what was done in His name.

OK I have to know: did you attend Taylor U in the fall of 1985, after getting out of Escuela Caribe?? I just finished your book last night--you mentioned that your parents had decided you would attend "a Christian college in Upland, Indiana." I know you graduated from Calvin College (almost as bad as TU), but did you start at Taylor? I was a freshman there myself in the fall of 1985 and am so curious about whether you were there too! Meeting you might have helped me out--I was considered a bad witness for Jesus because I occasionally cussed. I thought I had it bad, but Jesus Land puts it all in perspective!! Thanks for sharing your story. It meant the world to me.
