Seattle

I was on tour in Seattle last week - what a gorgeous city! It was my first time there, and the weather was perfect, with clear sapphire skies over the Puget Sound and the leaves turning brilliant orange and red. From the 73rd floor of the BofA observatory, you could see all the way to Mt. Rainier and the Cascades. After sampling the local honey apples, and blackberry honey at Pike Place Market and eating fresh fish for every meal, I was ready to move up there from San Francisco.

One of the places on my itinerary was 3rd Place Books, a funky bookstore/coffeehouse/cultural center where I did a reading. It's a happening spot. At the same time that I was reading, there was an author panel on the other side of the spacious store. The bookstore was another reason to fall in love with Seattle.

Will you be coming to Washington, D.C.? I would love to meet you and hear you read. The very best bookstore in town is Politics & Prose, where I bought "Jesus Land." Thank you for writing it; it is the best book I have read this year.

Hi Julia,

I just wanted to say that your book really moved me. I finished it last night in a blur of tears. It is the best book I've read in a very long time. Thank you for sharing your story and I hope you publish more of your work--it's fantastic.

Hi - I'm not going to D.C. anytime soon, altho I do have a sister who lives in Gaithersburg, Maryland. Hmmm...maybe when the paperback comes out. I've heard of Politics & Prose is an excellent store.

I just finished your book as well. Thank you. I sincerely hope the people who need to read this book will.

Feel free to check out what it inspired me to write in my blog:

I also felt ambivalent about Christianity for a long time before letting go of it. I took me a while to realize you didn't have to be Christian to be moral. In fact, many secular people I now know are more decent that the Christians I grew up with. At least they don't out themselves as hypocrites as frequently.

Funny that you'd heard about New Horizons before.

I just finished Jesus Land and I absolutely loved it. I rarely find a book that's impossible to put down and this was it- what a surprise, I just picked it up off the rack at Barnes and Noble. I've already recommended it to many of my friends.
I live in New York City- will you be here any time soon to do readings or signings?

Hi Andrea,

Thanks for reading! I'm not going to NYC for the moment, but that could change at any moment.
